Abstract

A smart city is an urban development vision to integrate multiple information and communication technology (ICT) solutions in a secure fashion to manage a citys assets. The goal of building a smart city is to improve quality of life by using technology to improve the efficiency of services and meet residents needs. Control and optimization techniques have been playing a major role in this grand endeavour. In this workshop several active researchers in this field will report their recent technical progresses at both individual and program levels on transportation systems, smart buildings, cyber-security, formal synthesis in power management, and some visionary discussions on the role of cybernetics and domain integration, aiming to showcase some recent achievements and at the same time identify challenges ahead in order to arouse more interests and efforts at a broader societal level to ensure research sustainability.
